OUR STORY
Our Story starts in 2018, after hearing that Phill was the creator of Glitter Ball, was working in Oban and the surrounding area, as himself and his drag persona Crystal, Waverley Care contacted Phill.
Waverley Care had already been doing work in the area and knew of Gary and Stuart, who they introduced to Phill. They all started discussing Oban Pride and this is how our Launch Team was founded.
Our Story: About Us
Our Launch Team with Waverley Care started planning our first event in association with Oban Phoenix Cinema. This event was to be the launch of our Facebook page and to start putting out feelers for a Pride in Oban as well as other LGBTQ+ events.
The event was a showing of ‘God’s Own Country’ at Oban Phoenix Cinema followed by a disco at the Cellar Bar. A good night was had by all and the evening was hosted by Crystal.
The very next day Phill attended a weekend conference of the UK Pride Organisers Network (UKPON) and work began on putting Oban on the Pride Map
Our Story: About Us
Our next big step was a meeting of different people from all over Oban and surrounding areas including councils, business owners and representatives from Equality Network, Waverley Care, Pink Saltire and the Scottish Pride Organisers Network (SCOTPON.) We all meet to discuss the next steps we needed to take to make the dream of Oban Pride a reality.
Our Story: About Us
The Launch Team kept meeting and working away. Set a date, get a venue, and did all the necessary paperwork to get Oban Pride up and running.
In February 2019 we announced the date out our Pride Party at the Lorne Bar and revealed our Logo at a fabulous night including Karaoke with Crystal
Our Story: About Us
In March 2019 we had a few different fundraising events at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls raising funds for our Inaugural Pride these including a Coffee Afternoon, Medium Readings, a Medium Evening, and our Rainbow Fundraiser including Cabaret and Disco.
Our Story: About Us
Our next big step was getting more of the community Involved. We held our Business and Community Meeting in April 19 to get more support from local businesses and community groups. This meeting including a presentation by our Chair Phill talking about why Pride is so important. The meeting was held at Oban Community Fire Station and was well attended by people from all across the Oban Community.

Our Story: About Us
Oban Pride could not happen without volunteers all of our Committee Members are volunteers and work very hard throughout the year planning events throughout the year as well as planning our Pride Weekend.
In 2019 we were very lucky to have a great group of volunteers come up from Pride Life Glasgow with their Volunteer Co-Ordinate to help us out, if we didn’t have them that weekend it would have been hard to have Oban Pride in 2019.
We are always looking for more volunteers if you are interested visit our get involved section.
